Panjshir Valley Afghanistan

Situated 93 miles north of Kabul in the foothills of the Hindu Kush, the Panjshir is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful regions of the country.

With the invasion by the Soviet Union in December 1979 the valley was the site of brutal offensives fought by the Afghan Mujahedeen. It was also home to legendary warlord Ahmad Shah Massoud who notably and emphatically managed to defend the valley from being taken by either the Soviets or the Taliban in the 1990’s
